Followed VT Route 12 down to Montpelier on a hazy July day. Pulled over to explore the banks of the brook running parallel to Rt12 and snapped a few photos of these pools.

There were many signs of flooding along the brook and there were several construction sites along the way where road surface and bridges had washed out earlier in the summer.

There are many examples of wonderful architecture in the residential areas of Montpelier. On a future trip I'd like to photograph some of them. On this occaision I stuck mostly to the downtown area.

This building with its five chimneys obviously pre-dates central heating.

A shot of the state capitol dome taken from the rear of the building.

While cruising around downtown side streets I spied a formidable hillside street and naturally felt compelled to climb it. I can't imagine how people can access their homes on that hillside when it's covered with snow and ice.

Near the peak I came across Hubbard Park which judging by the number of passing hikers and runners must be a major recreational area for the good people of Montpelier.

The road I took followed a long, high cliff and peering over the edge to the city spread out below was vertigo inducing.

It's pretty easy to see why Montpelier, nestled as it is among the surrounding hillsides, is so prone to flooding.
