Chipmunks at the Hermitage

Chipmumks are not only beautiful, industrious, and entertaining, they are also downright friendly. When I walk down the driveway they will sometimes accompany me, running alongside. If I stand still for very long out in the yard they're apt to run over and perch themselves on my workboots. Once, one ran up my back and launched itself off my shoulder as I sat on the edge of the deck.

Enjoy these photos of one of the "regulars" around the Hermitage.

Little Known Fact If breeding conditions are not good, chipmunks are able to remain in their underground dens for up to two years without exiting. That's why they put away so many stores before winter!
