In this case "complete renovation" really does mean complete. Work carried out included:

After removal of all the old materials the bays were filled with fibreglass insulation and then covered with foil-covered one-inch rigid foam sheets. The foam sheets were furred vertically and then horizontally, creating a 1-1/2" air space for electrical wiring and outlets (no drafty outlets or switch boxes). Finally, gyprock was screwed to the horizontal furring on 16" centers.

The original exterior side door became the door between the living room and the 12 x 20 master bedroom/bathroom addition. Excavation was easy as the entire site is basically sand.
The addition included a new door to an added screened back porch and the master bedroom bathroom with walk-in shower, toilet and sink.

Master bedroom addition seen to left in photo. Also showing new windows, doors, and shingle roof.

Like the house, the garage floor was originally dirt. We raised the entire structure and poured a concrete slab. New wiring and new garage doors completed the job.
