HOUSTON -(Dow Jones)- Enbridge Energy Partners LP (EEP) said there was a leak on the Lakehead System's 34-inch crude oil pipeline, near Cohasset, Minn., at about 1:15 a.m. CDT Thursday.

In a press release, the company said about 3,000 to 5,000 barrels of crude oil spilled in a remote marsh area.

Due to the marsh conditions and difficulty in accessing the spill site, Enbridge, along with emergency and environmental officials, decided to conduct a controlled burn of the spilled oil, the company said.

The area will be restored in cooperation with environmental agencies.

Enbridge expects the pipeline to be restored to service by Sunday.

All other pipelines on the Lakehead system were returned to service earlier Thursday.

Enbridge Energy owns the U.S. portion of a liquid petroleum pipeline and has natural gas gathering, processing and marketing operations.
