Now is the Time to Do Your Part
Get Involved!
Fellow landowners! The battle goes well... we are making excellent progress
on all fronts! Our arguments before both the BAPE and the
NEB have been persuasive and have not fallen upon deaf ears; the MRC
Memphremagog and the UPA have both seen the light and come around to our
position; our appeal of the tainted CPTAQ hearings is moving forward; and our
people are working on a daily basis behind the scenes at all levels.
Is it the time to sit on our heels? NO! It is time to increase the pressure.
What can you do? Here are some suggestions:
- Write to the CPTAQ and make it clear that
it is unacceptable that their hearings on the TQM PNGTS Extension project were
set up and presided over by Brian Fahey, whose brother works for Gaz
Metropolitain as a liason with government departments (TQM is a Gaz Met
subsiderary) and does public relations for PNGTS. It is not sufficient
that Mr. Fahey excused himself from the process during the third of the three
days of hearings: the CPTAQ must reconvene their hearings with a three-member
commission which clearly has no conflict of interest in this matter.
And while you're at it, express your dissatisfaction over the fact that the
CPTAQ has steadfastly refused to release the transcripts of these public
hearings because they are the property of TQM, which so generously volunteered
to provide the transcription services. Where is the tranparency?
- Write to Christine Stewart, the
federal minister of the environment, and express your views on this project -
if you wrote briefs to the BAPE and/or NEB, send them along with your
letter!
- Discuss your views with neighbors and other residents of areas affected by
the project, and make your opinions clear to politicians and public
representatives at the local level.
- And keep the faith! Our cause is gaining ground each and every day and your
efforts WILL make a difference!
