The Vermont Teddy Bear Company today caved into pressure from four advocacy groups for the mentally ill, including the Vermont chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and removed its Valentine's Day product "Crazy for You" Teddy Bear from the market.

Critics claimed that the teddy bear, which came with a straight jacket and a "commitment report", was insensitive and that it trivialized the plight of the mentally ill, stigmatizing and stereotyping them.

Yeah. It was no laughing matter. And the mentally ill are much better off now, too.
